Tai-Chi

At the Golden Lion Tai Chi Chuan Academy, we believe that integrated mind and body fitness is a way to good health, and that Tai Chi Chuan is a system of exercise and philosophy ideally designed to achieve this integration and fitness.

Tai Chi is a natural way to fitness and health. It is essentially gentle mind-body exercise performed in a tranquil, graceful way to keep both your mind and body fit. The tai chi movements are purposefully performed with slow, continuous and controlled techniques so as to protect your joints while at the same time promoting relaxation, concentration, memory, balance and coordination.

Tai Chi is excellent to help you prevent and manage stress. Its effectiveness as a gentle exercise system that promotes the healing and prevention of illness has been well researched and documented.

Kung Fu

Strengthen your mind and body while you get fit and learn to defend yourself

The traditional method of teaching and learning martial arts is followed at the Golden Lion Kung Fu Academy, where discipline, respect, honour, patience and humbleness are strongly encouraged.

Our programmes will teach you how to learn to handle stress, violence and bullying. A complete system of mind-body training, you'll learn self defence techniques; special breathing and meditation techniques; traditional and modern kung fu forms based on the Shaolin 5 animals; weaponry such as cudgel, broadsword, spear; pressure points; iron palm training and Chinese lion dance ceremonies.

These are taught with philosophies that build character, attitude, respect and discipline that you'll need to succeed in life.

You'll gain physical power, yet be graceful and flexible. You'll improve your self esteem, develop a clearer, more confident mind and a healthy balance of mind, body and emotions.

Dim Mak

Dim Mak pressure points training have been successfully incorporated into many martial arts styles. Dim Mak study consists of theory and practical applications. It is of Chinese origin so it uses - and you will be introduced to - principles of traditional Chinese medicine to explain the consequences of both -- blows to the body, and the healing benefits of pressure points. Other systems, such as Western medicine, cannot be used to fully explain dim mak.

Your theory studies should include at least the following:

  • how to select and locate pressure points accurately
  • how to strike pressure points in self defence
  • which points are best used in combat and which are best for healing
  • how Chi and Blood are destroyed
  • how Yin or Yang in the body is damaged
  • how to use the Five Elements to weaken your opponent
  • how to use the meridian system to reverse the natural flow of Chi Life Force in the body
  • how the internal organs such as the heart, liver or kidneys can be destroyed

The practical applications of dim mak are strictly for self-defence purposes only. Dim Mak's Practical Defence Strategies should include techniques that teach you:

  • which pressure points to use in dangerous situations
  • how to use pressure points for maximum results, and why not to use other points
  • how and where to step to control your assailant
  • blocking and counter-attacking techniques giving maximum speed and accuracy with minimum effort
  • how to immobilise your attacker safely with pressure points
  • Chi building internal exercises to harness Chi Life Force energy and increase internal power
