Golden Lion Wins Gold in
1st World Traditional Wushu

Fifteen students of Golden Lion were chosen to represent Australia to compete at the Inaugural World Traditional Wushu Festival held in Zhengzhou, China, October 2004. Wushu is a generic term that encompasses the traditional Chinese martial arts of Kung Fu and Tai Chi.
The festival attracted over 2,000 competitors from 60 countries and was held in two stadiums built specially for the event. Athletes of various age groups, from children to veterans competed in both traditional and modern Wushu. There were over 100,000 people at the opening ceremony, which displayed traditional arts like Beijing opera as well as modern popular music over two and a half hours.
Students of Golden Lion won a total number of 9 Gold, 16 silver and 4 Bronze medals. In addition, the Gold Cup for best Group Team event was also won by the Golden Lion group. In the past 15 years, Golden Lion has regularly had students selected for the Australian team in World Championships.
