Golden Lion Tai Chi Wins
Five Gold in World Wushu
(Kung Fu and Tai Chi) Festival

Nine Tai Chi students from Golden Lion formed part of the Australian team who competed in the Inaugural World Wushu Festival held in Zhengzhou, China, October 2004 and Seven Tai Chi students also represented Australian team in 2nd World Wushu Festival held in Zhengzhou, China, October 2006. Wushu is a generic term that encompasses the traditional Chinese martial arts of Tai Chi and Kung Fu. Athletes of various age groups, from children to veterans competed in both traditional and modern Wushu. The Final Medal Count for Golden Lion Tai Chi members are 5 Gold, 8 Silver and 3 Bronze medals. The principal of the Academy, Grandmaster Dr Pier Tsui-Po, said today "This result is only possible with a team of highly trained and experienced instructors who offer consistently high quality training programmes in fully equipped facilities".


Wu Shu is a general term that encompasses various types of Chinese martial arts. The categories of Wu Shu practice are:

  • Tai Chi (bare hands and weapons).

  • Nan Quan - Southern Kung Fu (bare hands and    weapons).

  • Chang Quan - Northern Kung Fu (bare hands and    weapons).

  • San Shou - Full contact sparring.


  • There are also World Championships held every two years. Since 1997, Golden Lion Tai Chi and Kung Fu students was selected to represent Australia in the World Championships. These Golden Lion students are among a team of Australian to represent Australia.

    Three Qualified International Judges at Golden Lion

    The Golden Lion Academy is the only school in Australia with three instructors fully trained and qualified to judge World Tournament competitions. You can only benefit from this experience at Golden Lion. Tai Chi Chief Instructor Master Charles Tsui-Po is a qualified International Judge.

    Senior Master Charles Tsui-Po is personally in charge of your progress. He has refined his teaching methods over the past 36 years with Australians and is Australia's leading Tai Chi instructor. As a full time professional teacher you will have his total commitment and dedication. Master Charles also furthers his skills as he continues to learn and train with other great masters throughout the world. Master Charles' credentials are:

    Highly Trained Instructors

    Master Charles Tsui-Po, together with Grandmaster Dr Pier Tsui-Po and other Masters of Golden Lion, train a select group of instructors. These instructors are professionally trained so they maintain Golden Lion's high standards. Before they are allowed to teach, they undergo a two-year instructor accreditation course taught by the Golden Lion Academy. Under the watchful eye of Master Charles, they are also required to attend regular classes to ensure they continue to improve.
    The Tsui-Po masters and their instructors will help you become healthier and fitter so you enjoy your life more. You'll make new friends, become more relaxed and have better confidence and self-esteem.

    Three Types of Membership


    The aim of the following types of membership is to offer specialised training that is targeted to your interest and which is also commensurate with your abilities. This will help you be the best you can be in your chosen field and help you improve faster and quicker.

    1. Tai Chi Core Curriculum - Healing, Fitness, Relaxation
    2. Gradings and Trainee Instructor Program
    3. International Competition Class

    1. Tai Chi Core Curriculum - to heal and prevent illness and injury, improve fitness, promote relaxation
    This is a complete mind and body programme that builds you from beginner to advanced level. Every student of the Academy trains in this core programme. In classes you learn specific movements, breathing techniques, and meditation that will help you relax, strengthen your immune system, and heal illnesses. You will improve your balance, coordination and overall fitness. You will also become stronger and more confident, have more flexibility and better circulation.
    You can progress from beginner to master's level. The routines you can learn are the Beijing 24 form, International 42 form, Sword 32 form, 48 form, Sword 42 International form, Yang 40 form and Yang 88 form. Those who wish to learn more about this ancient form of martial art learn Dim Mak pressure points and engage in advanced exercises such as push hands; self defence applications, silk reeling, tai chi spear and tai chi straight sword, tai chi fan and tai chi Saber.

    Ideally, you are encouraged to attend classes for at least 2 years as the programme has been designed to give you maximum benefits that escalate over that period. However, you will notice immediate results from your Tai Chi classes. Early benefits that you can expect will include improvement in your balance, ability to relax under pressure and general calmness. This is reinforced further as each year goes by.

    2. Gradings Class
    This master class caters for those who wish to improve their skills to advanced levels, to progress to Black Belt level, or to become an instructor. If you choose to join this class, you must train in the Core Curriculum at least one class per week to learn overall skills that you will use in the gradings class. Anyone irrespective of experience can enrol in this class. The fee for this class is separate to all other memberships.

    3. International Competition Class
    This class consists of International competition bare hands and weapon routines as well as essential techniques. To join this team, you must train a minimum of one class per week in the Core Curriculum (see the number one option) to learn overall skills that you will use in the Competition class. Two classes are preferred if you are serious about competing in tournaments.

    The fee for this class is separate to all other memberships. Give it a go. You won't know unless you try. Anyone irrespective of experience can enrol in this class, even if you are a complete beginner.
