Like Kung Fu, Tai Chi and Dim Mak pressure points, traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has a long history. Many of its best practitioners had become Masters of the fighting arts before graduating to healing. Dr. Pier Tsui-Po, Grand Master of the Golden Lion Academy has followed that same path and now operates a successful TCM clinic alongside the Academy. Today, few Martial Arts instructors can claim this heritage.

Recommended by the World Health Organization, TCM is the oldest medical system in the world that is still in use today. Treatment involves one or a combination of: acupuncture, herbs, moxibustion, cupping, massage, breathing, meditation and special exercises such as Tai Chi, Dao Yin or Chi Kung.

To Chinese medicine, a human being is a living unity, a field for the action and interaction of the invisible forces of life. The harmony of these vital forces within us is revealed by the health of our whole body, their disharmony by its disease, their disappearance by its death.

So the aim of the TCM doctor is to correct the imbalances of the vital forces in the body. Once the harmonious interplay of these forces is restored, the patient is then able to overcome his or her illness.

Traditional Acupuncture

Acupuncture began with the discovery that the stimulation of specific points on the body affected the functioning of organs. It evolved into a complete therapeutic system as the connection between these points and the organs were better understood.

Traditional acupuncture regulates the flow of Chi in the meridians and organs, removes blockages, strengthens the body's Protective Chi and lessens the virulence of excesses. Once this is achieved, the balance of Yin and Yang is restored and the body returns to a state of health.

Researches have found that through acupuncture your body's internal energies are strengthened to fight off illness. They have also found that in the treatment of pain, the body releases its own natural painkiller andomorphine. It is this that calms and gives a sense of well being.

The effect of good acupuncture however is to do more than simply threat the symptom. Pier Tsui-Po's role may be likened to that of a musician tuning an instrument. Diagnostics determines the "tone" of the individual strings to restore a coordinated sound. When all strings resonate harmoniously, health follows.

Chinese Herbal Medicine

Herbal medicine has its roots in China where records written on turtle shells and animal bones date back as far as 1324 BC. Flowers, leaves, stems, barks, roots of plants and occasionally some animal products and minerals are used. Pier Tsui-Po uses plant substitutes instead of endangered animal species.

Herbs can work on a physical or ethereal level. Physically, the ingestion of herbs has a nourishing action on the body through the physical digestion and absorption of the herbs in the gut. On a higher, deeper or more subtle level, our energy forces are reached to activate our self-healing mechanisms through the dynamic meridians that circulate Chi.

Formulas contain a combination of herbs. It is the synergy between the herbs that contributes to the overall effect of a formula, which is dispensed in powder, pills, liquid or in raw dried form.

From young children to the elderly, most people will benefit from herbs. Compared to chemical and other drugs, there are no side effects.

Pier Tsui-Po's first clinical involvement in Chinese medicine began in 1975. He is a fully qualified TCM practitioner and accredited by the Australian Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine Association (AACMA) and Acupuncture Ethics and Standards Organisation. (AESO) for the practice of acupuncture, herbal medicine and Tui Na Massage. He is also a registered acupuncturist and Chinese herbalist with the Chinese Medicine Registration Board of Victoria.

He has a Doctoral Degree in Acupuncture, a Masters Degree in Chinese Martial arts, various other diploma and advanced certificate in Chinese medicine and a Certificate in Oriental Massage

Through his Chinese family heritage Dr. Tsui-Po accumulated a wealth of experience in both healing and Martial Arts. This means that through his added advantage of understanding how the human body works as a whole, he is able to offer you a fresh and unique approach to treatment.

Consultations are by appointment.
